Trujillo

The city of Trujillo, which is known as the “City of Eternal Spring”, is located in the region of La Libertad, also is the capital of this region.

Among the tourist attractions that can be found within the beautiful city of Trujillo, there are places like, the Military Wall of Trujillo Colonial; This structure was erected approximately in the 17th century, and like that of Lima, it was built with the purpose of protecting the city from the possible attack of corsairs. The Military Wall of Trujillo, however, does not have the necessary height to fulfill the old mission, so, it is believed, that finally, it was only built for decorative purposes.

Another resource that is part of the attractions of the city is the Plazuela el Recreo which is located at the end of Pizarro street. This Plazuela is considered part of the Monumental heritage of the Nation, and was built on what was the old Water Box of the city.

One of the main squares of the city is the Plaza Mayor de Trujillo; it is known that the square of Trujillo existed, practically, since the appearance of the first Spaniards in the area, and that it was even the starting point to be able to trace the territory of the city. This important square, covers an area of ​​more than 10,000 m2, which is why it is considered the largest within Peruvian territory.

In the city, different mansions are also registered as tourist resources; among those, is the Casa Bracamonte or Lizarzaburú; which is considered one of the historical monuments of the city; said house, is an original construction of the seventeenth century, and is one of the colonial buildings that are located in front of the same main square of the city. Also of colonial origin, is the Casa Ramírez and Laredo or Ganoza Chopitea, which recently has passed into the hands of a civil owner, who has been remodeling it to enable it.

Another important building, although of republican origin, in the city, is the well-known Ituregui Palace that was built in the 19th century and that was, in its origins, considered one of the most elegant buildings in the city; the building is located just 200 meters from the Plaza Mayor de Trujillo, and is part of the Monumental Heritage of the Nation.

In one of the corners of the aforementioned Plaza Mayor de Trujillo, there is also the main religious building of the city: the Cathedral of Trujillo; This building is also known as the Minor Basilica, and it is considered the first religious monument of the city and inside, it highlights, in particular, the Greater Altarpiece that it has, and that is considered, the best work done by the carvers of Trujillo

Another religious resource, in the city, is the Church of Santa Rosa de Santa María, which is located five hundred meters from the Plaza Mayor and which is also considered part of the Monumental Heritage of the Nation. Other important churches within the city are the Church of San Francisco, which stands out for the considerable number of altarpieces that it has inside; the Church of La Merced, whose first construction took place in 1536; the Church and Convent of the Society of Jesus, among others.

To the city of Trujillo, you can reach both land and air transport. The bus tour, to the city, can take up to nine hours; while the airplane trip usually takes an hour, on average.
