Paracas

Paracas is a district located in the region of Ica. The National Reserve of Paracas was declared in 1975 a cause of the only area that protects the cold sea that the current of Humboldt as well as for the biological diversity that comprises and that also presents as motive the mentioned current. In the same way, the Paracas National Reserve is important for the historical value that it presents and that is seen in the approximately 114 archaeological sites it registers.

About the fauna of Paracas, it is notorious the presence of birds that migrate to the place, along with species of mammals and reptiles. The National Reserve is a refuge for species that are under threat, as is the case of the Humboldt penguin, the Peruvian potoyunco, whose population has been diminished due to the decrease in the risk of the islands and what is found in a situation of critical danger; among others, as vulnerable as a child: the peregrine falcon, the chuita and others.

There are colonies of Humboldt penguins that are in danger of extinction. Likewise, the Ballestas Islands are found in the refuge of the varieties of sea lions (fur seals and wolves) and other mammals.

It is also of special interest when you are near these islands, to hear the cries of the wolf packs. It gives the impression of being surrounded by these animals practically almost 360 degrees. The auditory spectacle is especially unique and unparalleled. These sea lions are harmless.

These islands can be accessed from the Paracas spa, making a circuit that takes place in boats, which allows to appreciate these species in their environment safely. The complete circuit lasts approximately the hours and begins at 8:00 hours. Sailing to the Ballestas Islands, on the way you can see El Candelabro which is a large geoglyph that serves as a beacon for sailors. This geoglyph is related to the lines and geoglyphs of Nazca and Pampas de Jumana.

Paracas is located 4 hours by land south of Lima and is connected by air to Cusco on seasonal flights from Pisco, neighbor city of Paracas.
