The city of Chiclayo is known as the “City of Friendship”, due to the warmth of its people. This city is located in the province of the same name, the region of Lambayeque. Chiclayo is the capital, both of the province and of the department in which it is located.
Among the different tourist attractions that are within the beautiful city of Chiclayo, there are places like the Paseo de las Musas. This walk is known by that name because in it you can find the sculptures of the nine muses of Greek mythology. Casa Elías Aguirre is another interesting place in the city. This mansion, is an original construction of the eighteenth century, which was modified at the beginning of the twentieth century. This house is located just one hundred meters from the Plaza de Armas of Chiclayo.
In addition to the previous one, in the city, around the main square, there is also the main Catholic building in Chiclayo: the cathedral. This temple, was built after the second half of the nineteenth century and inside, highlights the effigy of the Poor Christ, much revered by the inhabitants of the area. Other religious structures, important within the city, are the Ex-Convent of the Franciscan Fathers, which presents a construction erected in 1541 and recently in the process of remodeling; there is also the Basilica of San Antonio de los Padres Descalzos, which was built at the beginning of the second half of the 20th century.
As part of the old buildings, with which the city counts, there is also the Municipal Palace of Chiclayo; This place was built in the second decade of the twentieth century, and is important, among many reasons, for being the site, which suffered the worst attacks during the war with Chile. A public space, also of ancient date, is the Plazuela Elías Aguirre, which was built at the end of the 19th century and in whose environment the house that belonged to the APRA Political Party belongs.
In the city of Chiclayo, there are also points of view; between the viewpoints is the Cristo Redentor Viewpoint, which is located in El Cerro “El Molino”. The way to the viewpoint works as an interesting point to practice trekking, since it comprises a system of stands of a total of 120 floors, which also has breaks.
For the city of Chiclayo, it can be reached by air or land. The flight to the “City of Friendship”, usually takes about an hour; while the bus trip, through the North Pan-American Highway, can last up to 12 hours, if the trip is made by car; and it can be several between one and two hours, if the transfer is made by bus, according to the type of route followed by the transport company whose services are contracted. The bus terminals in Chiclayo are quite close to the downtown.
